20 percent of all music sales are downloads

According to IFPI’s digital music report 2009, some 20 percent of all music sales were digital downloads. In 2008 the total volume of paid digital downloads grew to 3.7 billion dollars, which is about a 20 percent of the total volume of music sales. The market for digital downloads showed about a 30% increase overr 2007. This is the sixth consecutive year that sales of digital music increased.


Consumers favour individual tracks over albums. Still, albumsales showed a 36% increase over 2007. American consumers are most active online, on average they spend 5 times as much as Europeans.
