Jail sentences for Chinese piracy group
A court in the South-Chinese city of Shenzhen has sentenced eleven members of a piracy group to jailsentences of up to 6.5 years. The group had been selling illegal copies of Microsoft software for over two years. Their estimated revenue was over two billion dollars.
The group was arrested in July of 2007 after a combined effort of the FBI and the Chinese police. It looks like the Chinese are stepping up their anti-piracy efforts. In the past the Chinese were oftentimes criticized for their lax attitude towards piracy.
