Consumers prefer streaming over downloads
Research by Ipsos MediaCT shows that American consumers are more interested in streaming movies and TV shows than downloading them. The Ipsos research found that for internet users 12 years and older, 17 percent had streamed a movie and 25 percent had streamed a TV show in the past 30 days, versus 11 percent who downloaded a movie and 11 percent who had downloaded a TV show in that same period.
Furthermore, the research showed that 59 percent of the respondents would prefer to have a physical copy if it was the same price as a digital download. Ipsos sees the limited difference in price between physical and digital copies as the main reason people still buy physical copies. By reducing the price of downloads, more people could be persuaded to buy digital content online.
