Sharereactor back online… for now?

One of the biggest filesharing platforms of all time, ShareReactor, is back. A few years back Sharereactor was a hugely popular eDonkey site, but because it was first and foremost a platform for piracy, it was taken down by the Swiss authorities in 2004. Sharereactor resurfaced a in 2006, but was taken down again a short while later.

Now, the Sharereactor team will make a third attempt to restart the site. This time they have support from the Piratebay.org who will provide hosting and PR. The site will keep the old look and feel and has added .torrents to their available downloads. Sharereactor now also has a very active ‘quality monitoring’. Or as Admin Utopat puts it in an interview with Torrentfreak:

“If it’s not a private torrent site, you see the same TV show episode 20 times, the same game 50 times and with applications you might see hundreds of copies of the same thing. On ShareReactor there will be just one .torrent and eD2k link for each release and these will be moderated, ensuring an easy choice for the user and guaranteeing quality.”

“There are so many viruses, fake torrents or simply not-working torrents, it’s hard for many users to find what they want. Sure, the seasoned users know how to spot the bad apples, but let’s face it, that’s not the majority. These problems won’t be appearing on ShareReactor.”

The fact that Sharereactor is actively moderating .torrents and eDonkey links means that they have a great deal of control over their services. As such, Sharereactor is liable for copyright infringement. It is therefore likely that Sharereactor won’t be around for too long...
