BREIN forces Bulgarian Bittorrent trackers out of Holland
The Dutch anti-piracy organisation BREIN has forced several popular Bulgarian trackers to relocate their servers outside the jurisdiction of BREIN. Among the trackers is RARBG, a relatively big tracker with over 1,1 million unique users per month.
The Bulgarian trackers were located at the big Dutch hostingprovider Leaseweb. The providers moved there after being forced out of their own country by the Bulgarian police.
However, ever since BREIN won a court victory over Leaseweb in the case of BREIN v. Leaseweb in 2007, Leaseweb is no longer a safe haven for Bittorrent trackers. In the of case BREIN v. Leaseweb, Leaseweb was ordered to shut down the relatively small Bittorrent tracker Everlasting.nu and hand over the personal data of the administrator. Leaseweb appealed the decision, but lost their appeal in July of 2008.
Bittorrent trackers are now flocking to Sweden, which is currently still a safe haven for Bittorrent trackers pending a judgement in the Piratebay case.
